Career Center Seminar: This orientation is mandatory for certain pre-selected UI claimants and provides an overview of available programs, services, resources and workshops. New Member Group Orientation: (NMGO) These workshops provide an overview of our available programs, services, resources and workshops. If you have not attended CCS, you must attend the NMGO to become a member of the Career Center before you can register for other workshops. Career Options: Want a new job direction? Not sure what jobs would be good for you? In this interactive workshop, an assessment will identify a range of possible jobs linked to your personality you may want to consider. Computer 101: Learn the absolute basics for your computer job search — even if you only use 2 fingers! (Recommended as a pre-requisite for New Member Group Orientation for attendees without computer skills.) Coping with Job Loss: In a supportive, interactive environment, learn ways to deal with the fear, loss and stress that occur when you're unemployed. Dynamic Cover/Follow-up Letters: The first paragraph in your cover letter can often make or break your chance for an interview. Learn how you can make your letters, thank you notes and other correspondence standout! (Workshop builds on Résumés that Work concepts.) How to Work a Job Fair: Are you really ready for a job fair? Are you prepared to answer the questions recruiters are likely to ask? Discover tips to help you standout from the crowd. Interviewing: Your cover letter and résumé are standouts! You've been asked to come in for an interview. Now what? Learn tips to help you ace the interview! Intro to Social Networking — Facebook and LinkedIn: Basic introduction to social networking focusing on how to use Facebook and LinkedIn for job search. (Computer skills not required for this overview.) Networking for People Who Hate It: If you don't like to network, this is the workshop for you! Whether you're an introvert or an extravert, learn how to develop a strategy that uses your strengths to "network to your next job"! Online Applications and Tests I: Many employers — on and off-Cape — will only accept job applications online. In this informational workshop, discover the tips you need to successfully complete applications and tests.. Online Applications and Tests II: Hands-on workshop to practice completing online applications and tests. Three practice options: a simple simulation, a more complex simulation and an actual online application. (Requires computer/internet skills.) Overcoming Age Barriers: Is your age an asset or a liability in today's job market? Are you unconsciously sabotaging your job search with negative thinking? Discover tips to help you overcome stereotypes and turn your experience into a competitive advantage. Résumés that Work: Having a great resume is an advantage in today's competitive job market. If you haven't written a resume recently, things have changed. Learn how to create a resume that will help you get an interview! Developing a SMART Plan** (How to develop a SMART Job Search Plan using The Job Seekers Guide): Have you heard the expression, work smarter not harder? This workshop identifies the specific steps you can follow to implement a SMART job search plan, using both The Job Seekers Guide and Career Opportunities resources. See what online resources are also available to help you "fast track" your job search. (No computer skills required). Exploring My Interests and Options** ( Prerequisite Developing a SMART Plan): Are you looking for a new direction? Not sure of what jobs would be a good fit? Using 2 assessments, you can identify jobs that match your interests and personality. This replaces previous Career Options workshop. (No computer skills necessary). Using MassCIS/O*NET** (Recommended after taking What are My Skills and/or Exploring My Interests and Options): If you have good computer skills , this workshop is for you! Learn how to use 2 excellent websites to research and explore different occupations. What are My Skills** (What are My Skills and How Can I Use Them) ( Prerequisite Developing a SMART Plan): Do you really know what skills you can offer employers? If not, you're not alone! Using 2 self-assessments identify your skills and learn how to find occupations that utilize these skills. (No computer skills required). |

Answering the "Overqualified" Question (Pre-requisites Core Interviewing, Developing Your 30-Second Commercial and Résumé Development Workshops): Are you tired of being told that you are "overqualified" for the job? Find out what the employer really means — and how you can overcome the "overqualified label" during an interview. Creating an Electronic Résumé (Pre-requisite Résumé Development I/II: Does your résumé have the "right stuff" to successfully navigate the electronic tracking world? In this hands-on workshop, learn how to convert your paper résumé into an electronic version that you can insert into email messages or cut and paste into on-line applications. Bring an electronic copy of your résumé on a flash drive. Requires good computer skills and use of basic Microsoft Word. Developing Your 30-Second Commercial: Your 30 second commercial is a great marketing and networking tool. It's also the answer to the interview question, "Tell me about yourself." In this highly interactive workshop, learn how you can create a great 30-second commercial — one that will help "sell" your skills, abilities and accomplishments! Intermediate LinkedIn(Pre-requisite a LinkedIn profile and some experience with establishing connections).You've got a LinkedIn profile and aren't quite sure what to do next. In this 2-hour, hands-on workshop, learn some "next steps". Content will be driven by the needs of participants. Requires good computer skills. Class size is limited. Mock Interview (Pre-requisites Core Interviewing, Developing Your 30-Second Commercial and Résumé Development Workshops): Why should I hire you? Do you have difficulty answering that question or any others in an actual interview? You're not alone. A mock interview is an excellent opportunity to practice in a positive and supportive environment. Bring your résumé, a copy of an ad or job posting, and dress in "your interview best." Class size is limited. Résumé Development I (Pre-requisite Résumés that Work Setting Up Your LinkedIn Profile (Pre-requisite Intro to Social Networking or equivalent knowledge): If you don't already have a LinkedIn account, this workshop is for you! In this 2-hour, hands-on workshop, you'll get the chance to set up your basic LinkedIn profile. Bring an electronic copy of your résumé, as this is the fastest way to create your profile. Requires good computer skills. Class size is limited. |
